Dr. Sara M. Howard graduated in 2015 from Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in Virginia on her family’s farm, raising beef cattle and sheep and has an undergraduate degree in Biology from Colorado College. In July of 2015 Sara relocated to Centralia, WA. and joined Cascade West Veterinary Hospital as an associate veterinarian. Sara is very interested in working with both large and small animals particularly ruminants. She is also a certified Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist for animals of all kinds. Sara enjoys the outdoors with her husband Reed, who she married in June of 2015. They love hiking with their dog, Sadie as well as fishing, canoeing, and skiing. They are excited to continue exploring the Pacific Northwest.
Dr. Erin Ruminski graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and after completing an internship at an equine practice and regional surgery center in New Mexico she joined the staff at Cascade West in the summer of 2011. Before attending vet school she graduated from California State University, Long Beach and worked for The Navigators at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.Relocating to the Northwest brings Dr. Ruminski closer to friends and family; although she grew up riding and showing horses in a small town in Northern California, she was born in Portland and has family there and around the Sound.Dr. Ruminski spends time with her horse, Bentley, a Quarter Horse gelding, and her mini Aussie, Trace. She keeps house for two cats, Elwood and Wyatt, and enjoys traveling and working on her 110 year old Centralia home.
Dr. Lillian Ashley Ritter graduated from Washington State University in 2006 with her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and in 2009 from the college of Veterinary Medicine. She returned to her home town in Centralia to work at Cascade West Vet Hospital, the practice originally started by her grandfather Dr. William Ritter in 1942.She enjoys working with small animals and has a special interest in dentistry. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys skiing, hiking, yoga, adventures with her dogs and spending time at the Sound.
Dr. Chester "Chet" Iverson has an undergraduate major of Animal Science and graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. After graduation he came back to practice medicine at Cascade West Veterinary Hospital, close to his hometown of Onalaska. Professionally, his interests are focused around small animal medicine, dentistry and surgery.
He is also interested in ruminants. Outside of work he enjoys activities such as skiing, snowboarding, gardening and showing his dairy cows. He participates and supports the local community's Southwest Washington Fair Cattle exhibit, and is the 4-H leader for Alpha Better Bets' dairy division. Chet was married to Annika in August of 2009. His bride is also a veterinarian. Chet and Annika have three children; Aksel, Piper, and Finn. Their family also includes a Basset Hound named Fred, a cat named Lilly, 3 horses, 5 goats, and multiple cows.
Dr. Dina Wild is a 2002 graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While there, she worked with renowned researcher Dr. Steven Arnoczky at the Laboratory for Comparative Orthopedics and was lead author on the June 2001 American Journal of Veterinary Research article "Myofibroblasts in the accessory ligament (distal check ligament) and the deep digital flexor tendon of foals.” She relocated to Washington and joined Cascade West Veterinary Hospital in January 2007.Her professional interests include small animal surgery, and equine reproduction and preventative medicine.She and husband Dave welcomed daughter Michaela in July 2008. Other interests include photography (check out some of her work in our front reception area!) and raising dahlias.She also raises Arabian horses on her farm, Wild Side Arabians, home of Canadian National Top Ten stallion, Antham. In addition to her horses, she is owned by 4 cats.
Dr. Jason Humphrey was born and raised in North Central Washington.. He grew up on the family farm near Brewster and was involved with both 4H and FFA with sheep and cattle projects. He attended Washington State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science in 1998 and his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2001.He Joined the then Macomber & Affeldt Veterinary Clinic in June 2001 and became a partner in 2005. Dr. Humphrey enjoys all aspects of large animal practice, especially bovine and equine reproduction.In 1997, he married college sweetheart Kathrine, who was raised on a farm in the Boistfort valley. They have three children: Jackson, Margarite and Ava. His hobbies include basketball, fishing, hunting, traveling and building a small herd of purebred Angus cattle.
Dr. Chris Affeldt grew up in Minnesota where he received his undergraduate degree from St. John's University in 1991. He then graduated from the University of Minnesota Veterinary College in 1995 and moved to Centralia. He began working for what was then Macomber and Wesselius Veterinary Clinic and now is part owner of the same practice, renamed Cascade West Veterinary Hospital. In September 2011, he moved to the Tumwater area and he continues to work full time at Cascade West.Dr. Affeldt mainly sees equine and large animals, though he also sees small animals occasionally. His professional interests include equine reproduction and lameness.Other interests include snow and water-skiing, hiking, mountaineering, cycling and spending time with his wife Darby, also an athletic veterinarian/financial adviser, with a focuson...DVM's and practices, his daughter Emmelyn, and son Truman; The family has a darling Lab named Lava, whom always rides along on calls, and at least 3 cats, quite possibly more when Darby can't resist the cute faces at the shelter.
